Biography

Steven Kolberg is the Senior Coordinator of Accessibility and LMS Administration serving Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) from the College’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) since August 2018. He works closely with the Office of Adaptive Services, Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence, FSW Online/Learning Technologies, and other areas. He holds a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction in Educational Technology from Florida Gulf Coast University and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management from Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW). He has been employed with FSW since 2015 and his work centers on web accessibility, online course content, Assistive Technologies, and providing resources and guidance to promote increased access. Prior to working for OIT, he served the College’s Library Services as a Library Technology Systems Specialist integrating technologies for improved library services and workflows.

Electronic Information Technology (EIT) Accessibility Specialist

  • Provide guidance, and act as liaison to College departments where EIT is developed, procured, or supported, including but not limited to Adaptive Services, Office of General Counsel, and Library Services.
  • Recommend best practices for EIT accessibility for new and existing technologies, including software, hardware, web-based applications, and documents.
  • Recommend and advises on EIT accessibility criteria for integration into development and testing processes, procedures, resource requirements, and schedules.
  • Identifies and recommends tools for developing and testing EIT accessibility.
  • Assist in the development of IT Accessibility Goals and Strategies Plan and works to keep these plans aligned with campus initiatives and efforts
  • Assist in the development of IT Accessibility Communications Plan to increase campus awareness and promote the goals of the Consortium and/or campus IT Accessibility
  • Assist in the development of Educational programs that clarify IT Accessibility requirements, priorities, and recommendations to raise the level of accessibility
  • Assist in the development of Campus-specific EIT plans for maintaining and monitoring compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Web Content Accessibility Guide (WCAG 2.0), relevant copyright regulations, and other applicable regulations, as appropriate, to ensure compliance in the application of and use of technology for College programs and activities.
  • Advises and supports the College in planning for the growth and scalability of assistive technologies.
  • Advises and collaborates with the CIO/IT Directors on policy development, administration, programming, and assessment with regard to IT Accessibility.
  • Regularly reports EIT accessibility status, progress, and other relevant information to the CIO and IT area directors.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with key vendors of EIT.
 
 
 
 
 

Library Systems Specialist

  • Promoted into a new position to better align my skill-set with existing work.
  • Provide front-line technological support troubleshooting issues with cloud services, database, hardware, and software specific needs escalating and coordinating with on-site IT or contracted agencies for resolution.
  • Run ad hoc queries within the ALEPH Integrated Library System to provide customized reports containing requested data to stakeholders.
  • Local administrator for LibGuides CMS and the College Events Calendar for the Holocaust Memorial Week Committee and Florida SouthWestern State College Libraries.
  • Educates and mentors new employees on all Integrated Library System modules.
  • Provide division-wide cataloging services for over seven years.
  • Perform and maintain the annual physical assets inventory at the Thomas Edison Campus library for over nine years.
  • Present training sessions to college Faculty and Staff on survey creation through Qualtrics. Commonly requested to provide and develop in-house training on Library Systems.

Responsibilities included:

  • Converted all library survey response data from paid surveymonkey.com subscription to a college-wide Qualtrics subscription maintaining data integrity.
  • Served on hiring committees for Library Assistant positions.
  • Worked with Florida Virtual Campus to begin automated holdings set and deletion process between the Integrated Library System and WorldCat (Online Computer Library Center) Catalog.
  • Collaborated with the acquisitions librarian to streamline the workflow process for ordering and cataloging.
  • Streamlined serials cataloging and check-in process.
